HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – December 2, 2025 – The University of Hong Kong Techno-Entrepreneurship Core (HKU TEC) is gearing up for an extraordinary showcase. Over the course of December 4th and 5th, 30 emerging startups will participate in the HKTDC Entrepreneur Day, a prominent entrepreneurial event set to take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Among these, 14 startups are part of the Tech-Up GBA Innovators Programme, diligently supported and incubated by HKU TEC, highlighting their groundbreaking innovations designed to tackle pressing issues in healthcare, industrial production, and environmental sustainability.

The Launch Ceremony of Tech-Up GBA Innovators Programme

At this much-anticipated event, a diverse group of young entrepreneurs will represent HKU researchers and students, unveiling their business successes and technological innovations aimed at addressing societal challenges. The event opens its doors to fellow entrepreneurs, investors, industry practitioners, and journalists, creating opportunities for potential collaboration and networking.

Established in 2023, HKU TEC serves as the nucleus of the university’s startup ecosystem, working to synergize resources and foster an environment rich in innovation and entrepreneurship. The iDendron, a vibrant entrepreneurship community hub under HKU TEC, has played a pivotal role in nurturing over 500 early-stage startups, offering critical resources and promoting cross-disciplinary collaborations among young innovators.

To bolster youth entrepreneurship, HKU TEC initiated the Gear Up Startup Seed Fund & Incubation Programme, funded by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau (HYAB) and supported by the Youth Development Fund (YDF). This initiative has successfully incubated 14 startups, transforming initial business ideas into thriving ventures.

Building on the momentum from the Gear Up programme, HKU TEC has launched the Tech-Up initiative. This new program, equally backed by the YDF, aims to equip young entrepreneurs with comprehensive resources – ranging from seed funding to mentorship and industry networking opportunities – facilitating the transformation of innovative concepts into competitive commercial ventures targeted at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

From R&D to Doing Business

During the Entrepreneur Day, set for December 4th and 5th, the 14 HKU tech startups benefited by the Tech-Up programme will showcase their innovations. Attendees will witness how HKU faculty, students, and alumni have successfully transitioned from rigorous research and development to launching viable business projects, addressing a variety of pressing societal needs and market demands.

The variety of projects on display will encompass groundbreaking solutions across healthcare, industrial production, and environmental sustainability. Innovations span personal care products – from an AI menstrual pad to a probiotics beverage and a comprehensive home health monitoring system – to rehabilitation technologies like smart insoles and rehabilitation robots. Other projects include advancements in industrial production and drug development, alongside technologies aimed at mitigating climate change and addressing environmental issues such as a cooling accessory for outdoor workers, waste treatment in agriculture, and solar-powered desalination systems aimed at refreshing water supplies.

Prominent startups include:

  • DiamNEX: A high-tech firm specializing in the research and development of flexible diamond membranes, which have the potential to revolutionize various industries.
  • ReGen Technology: Innovators behind a patented solar-powered desalination system that uses sunlight to generate fresh water, making it an optimal solution for agriculture and remote areas.
  • LinguaLeap Tech: Creators of the Aggray AI Rehab Robot, designed to assist individuals with swallowing difficulties through training and nutritional management.

Dr. Paul Wang, Director of HKU TEC, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, encouraging investors and industry leaders to visit the booths of the eager HKU startups. “We hope the participating startups will benefit greatly from networking, interacting with industry experts, and accelerating their growth in this vibrant environment,” he said.
